Top 10 Advantages Of Contextual Link Building

What is contextual link building?

Contextual link building is the process whereby you include a link to a relevant site within the body of the text you are writing. Google and other search engines note the presence of such links and use them to rank your site or page. Pages with contextual links will rank higher on Google than pages without such links. The keywords or words that you wish to link to other sites should be surrounded by text on either side. Most important is to link to sites that are relevant to yours, since Google places great value on relevancy.

Types of contextual links:

When you use a link to another site or blog within the body of text you are writing, this is considered to be an “outgoing” or “external link.” Hopefully the blog or site owner will request a link back to your site; this is a “reciprocal link.” You can link to other pages within your site; this is an “internal link.” All these count as contextual links as long as they are placed within the text of your post.

Top 10 Advantages of Contextual Link Building:

1. A contextual link will provide the reader with more information on the topic.

2. The reader will be more likely to return to your site again, knowing that you provide good information.

3. Use of good contextual links will build trust in your readers.

4. Writers of other blogs or sites will become aware of your site.

5. Writers of the other blog or sites may link back to your site, which gives your

site and theirs more exposure and more credibility.

6. Contextual link building brings you and your site more recognition.

7. The use of contextual links will increases the search engine optimization
(SEO) of your site.

8. Google will give your page a higher page rank.

9. Use of contextual links will bring more traffic to your site.

10.Increased sales should accompany the increased traffic to your site.

Two ways to select contextual links for your site:

You can search online for relevant sites to which to link your webpage or blog. Go to the potential link and make sure you like what they are saying and that it is relevant. Try to pick sites that are written by experts, and get a good amount of traffic. The second way is to let a professional do it for you. There are a number of companies which provide this service, but make sure you are contracting with a company that places contextual links, not just regular links. Google does not like or rank regular links.

Link Builder Services:

There are several professional companies which provide link builder services, including The Link Building Agency in London, UK. The Link Building Agency provides two levels of link building campaigns, as well as dedicated executives for outsourcing your company’s full-time link building needs. All links are manually built which means that they will definitely be relevant to your site or blog; this is an important feature of the link builder services they supply. The professional services of The Link Building Agency will bring more traffic and sales to your site.

Until Now – It seems that the 301 redirect costs you the exact same amount of link value as ever external link on your website.  Watch the full video from Google Webmaster Help and Share your Opinion in the comments

Selling A Domain Vs. Selling A Website

To the outsider, it would seem like the process of selling a domain would be the same as selling a website, but there are more things to take into consideration when selling a website than a domain. For one, the value of a domain can be determined without accessing proprietary information that a website hides behind a password. Domain value is calculated differently from one online calculator to the next and a professional appraisal will incorporate additional factors not considered by any algorithm. But, those factors plus a bunch of other ones come into play for calculating a website’s worth.

What Are Canonical URLs?

What are Canonical URLs?

The problem with search engines is that they have little power to evaluate content in a human manner. We’d all like to think of Google as our best friend, but really it’s our best friend that always holds your hand. This means that if you have a webpage and someone uses search terms that are relevant to your webpage, Google will decide if your webpage is worth bringing it up in the results with the power its algorithm.

This doesn’t always work properly. People can often have multiple versions of one page, such as the original webpage and a printer-friendly version of their original page. These two page versions will yield different URLs, but will have the same content. Now you’ve got two URLs for one page. Add onto this the fact that people post on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites and you get even more URLs. Before long you have a whole alphabet’s worth of URLs for the exact same content.

This poses problems. Google prefers to provide search results that are relevant, and if there are many URLs for one piece of content, it has a hard time deciding which is best.

It also makes it very hard to get a decent ranking in search engines because of ranking dilution. This means that because Google does not show what it thinks are duplicate web pages, it makes it harder for a website to end up at the top of the list. Google won’t consolidate these duplicate rankings.

Saved by the Canonical URL

This is where canonical URLs come in. Someone finally got the idea that Google wasn’t really doing what the website owners wanted it to and created a system that allows the site owners to decide which page they would prefer to have shown. That system was known as canonicalization.

If Google decides that another page on your site is best and you’d prefer another page, you can tell Google through html text to use another page. Thus, you get to maximize the amount of traffic that can be directed to the proper page.

So, when a page is requested by a user, the URL can redirect the link to a page of the site owner’s choice, making the consumer experience much more streamlined.

By having a canonical URL, Google consolidates your rankings and applies it to that canonized page. This way you don’t lose any of those important rankings and have a lessened chance of all that duplicate content showing up that you’d rather not.

Canonical URLs make the online experience much easier to navigate and make Google, whose powers of deduction are something akin to those of an idiot savant, happy. When you make Google happy, in turn Google will make your business happy.

3 Methods Guaranteed to Fight the Menace of Cross-Site Scripting

Although there are a number of possible flaws that can leave a web application vulnerable to attacks none are more dangerous than cross-site scripting (XSS). Essentially, cross-site scripting allows a hacker to bypass any and all access controls. This is done by injecting client-side scripts into web pages, thanks to breaches in browser security. Over the last decade, cross-site scripting has accounted for over 80% of all security vulnerabilities, showing that it is more serious a problem than developers believe. It is not surprising to find cross-site scripting on OWASP’s (Open Web Application Security Project) infamous Top 10 list. Irrespective of whether the attacks are persistent or not, here are 3 methods guaranteed to combat the menace caused by cross-site scripting.

Contextual output encoding

Also known as ‘escaping of string input’, contextual output coding is widely accepted as the best method to prevent cross-site scripting. All other methods are generally used in conjunction with contextual output coding. They type of contextual output coding used largely depends upon where the untrusted string is placed in an HTML document. Not all web applications accept rich data and this makes it easy for such applications to use contextual output coding to avoid cross-site scripting attacks. A very common mistake is to assume that performing HTML entity coding is enough to prevent cross-site scripting. While it may work for most forms of cross-site scripting, the fact remains that it will not completely eliminate the threat. This is where a security coding library comes is very handy. Encoding correctly is quite tricky and having access to a security coding library makes all the difference.

Validating Untrusted HTML Input

In order to provide a better experience for users, many web applications allow users to make use of a limited subset of HTML markup during input. Output encoding is of not much use in this scenario and this has become a well-known flaw exploited by hackers. Having an HTML policy engine can make all the difference in such a situation. A HTML sanitization tool can be used to ensure that the HTML codes used in the input string do not contain any cross-site scripting. So far, using a HTML policy engine is the only known way for web applications to filter out cross-site scripting when accepting HTML input.

Securing cookies

A persistent cross-site scripting attack can often let the hacker steal cookies that store important information and are used for authentication purposes by web applications. In order to counter this threat, applications tie-up cookies with the IP address that was used to log-in for the first time. If the cookie is stolen, the hacker will not be able to use it as his or her IP address is completely different. This causes a breakdown in authentication and the hacker is asked to login again. While not a fool-proof method, it works very well when combined with output encoding.

Cross-site scripting is perhaps the greatest web application security flaw mentioned on the OWASP Top 10 list. What makes it so dangerous is that it is a very easy flaw to exploit and yet can have disastrous consequences. The 3 tips recommended here is the best hope for any web application to prevent XSS.

Beginning HTML: How to Insert Documents

The blog explosion has caused a frenzy in activity when it comes to building a website and establishing (and hopefully growing) an audience. It seems any well intentioned individual can build a site that looks presentable and begin posting videos and pictures and articles about what they love. In theory, this is true. But the “necessary evil” of the Internet world shows its ugly head, and that is the art of website coding.

But coding and programming does not have to be this impossible ascension. As a matter of fact, the most universally basic computer language is html, and you can accomplish a wide variety of accessible aspects with it. It is relatively accessible and simple once you grasp the main ideas. Learning html opens the door to so much in your website platform, such as WordPress.

Methodology of using code or plugins to embed documents

One of these is inserting documents. You may find a time where you want to add a specific document for clarity or for download or for both. The easiest way to do this is with embedding codes. It is actually quite simple. When you create an external document, and you want to insert it, you must “embed” it into the webpage. You take your document and “surround” it with an embed code, which essentially tells the display that this document is to be embedded into the text and set for a full display. An iframe tells the computer’s browser visuals how this document is to be displayed, most particularly, the size.

Wordpress, fortunately, features some built-in plug-ins for inserting documents, which allows you to by-pass most of the raw coding. By going to your WordPress panel, search any plug-ins with the word “embed documents” and a wide assortment of options should surface for you to sample and view.

SEO value behind embedding content

Inserting documents claims more than just an aesthetic value. Websites can greatly benefit with the feature. Focused and high quality embedding can allow you to increase your “PageRank” and allow you to be more functional in search engines. What this means is that you appear “higher” when people search for content similar to yours on Google. One of the key attributes of a high ranking page is your linking and embedding from other sites. The Internet is about interlocking, and websites that do so benefit greatly. The Internet has certain parameters and standards that allow an overall consistency. When you start off, this may not apply. But as you grow, you should be aware of cc attributes, keywords, and other aspects that enhance your website’s exposure.

A typical WordPress blog does not incorporate just a series of text blogs, and call it a day. Most high quality blogs use document sharing, embedding, and keywords to maximize their appeal. One of the easiest ways to do this is to add relevant plug-ins which are created by motivated WordPress users. These plug-ins add content and user- accessibility to your blog, and can help shape it into a decent blog into something truly special.

Conclusion

Document sharing is rather quite simple, and a necessary step into expanding your blog. By doing some basic research, you can learn how to do this nominal task. Always consider what makes your blog better and not just flashier, as clutter and excess can distract from the purpose of your hard work.
